Hey crafty friends!

I’m throwing it back today to one of my absolute favorite kits — the Love From Lizi January 2025 Card Kit! The moment I saw those dreamy watercolor florals, I was completely smitten. The colors were rich, the details were soft and painterly, and it all just begged to be the star of a card design. 💐

And what better time to revisit this kit than now — with the launch of our brand-new Love From Lizi Monthly Layout Challenge! This month, we're featuring the versatile Background Builder 1 (BB1) die set, and let me tell you… this one’s a layout lifesaver.

A Quick Look at the Challenge

The BB1 die set includes two rectangle panels, one large shaped circle die, two small shaped dies (circle & square), and a sentiment. It’s perfect for building easy layouts that still look polished and intentional. Whether you're in a creative groove or just need a quick card, this set gives you a great starting point.

My Card: Inspired by January’s Florals

Since I was going for a cohesive look that honored those original watercolor florals, I decided to create a custom background using pigment powders — one of my favorite ways to get dreamy, unpredictable color blends.

Here’s how it came together:

  1. I began by wetting a piece of Ranger #130 Heavystock Paper and lightly sprinkling on Nuvo Shimmer Powder in Meteorite. I added more water to let the pigment flow and tilted the paper to help it move naturally.

  2. Once that layer was dry (set with a heat tool), I repeated the process using Ken Oliver's Wisteria and Orchid Colorburst Powders. I heat set this layer as well and used a paper towel to gently lift some excess water in a few spots for more variation.

  3. I left a few pigment sprinkles untouched for a subtle splatter effect — I love the bit of texture it adds! And as always, the magic of pigment powders is how many shades are packed into one little sprinkle. It’s like watching fireworks in watercolor form.

The result was a rich, shimmery panel that matched the floral die cuts beautifully. I used the two rectangle dies from the BB1 set to cut from this background.

Soft Details & Layers

To keep things airy, I cut the stitched squares from a pearlescent vellum — one of my go-tos for a dreamy, ethereal vibe. Then, I brought in the Butterfly Duo die from the April release and cut the smaller butterfly from the deep purple linen pattern in the Linen Rainbow Linen 6x6 Paper Pack. That subtle texture adds so much without stealing the spotlight.

I also die cut a large floral circle using one of the watercolor floral die cuts from the January Card Kit — and it really tied everything together!

Sentiment & Finishing Touches

The included “Best Wishes” sentiment from the BB1 set is such a delicate die — I highly recommend using craft tools to ease it out carefully. I double-cut and stacked the sentiment for a bit of dimension and durability, then adhered it directly to the floral circle.

For dimension throughout the card:

  • I popped up the two background rectangles with foam tape.

  • Each vellum square got a thin foam square for subtle lift.

  • The butterflies and floral circle were popped up with regular foam squares.

  • The sentiment was adhered flat to let the layers beneath shine.

Between the shimmer from the pigment powders, the sheen of the pearlescent vellum, and the pop of the purple butterflies, this card absolutely sparkles in person. Photos can’t quite capture how magical it is — but I tried!

As a final touch, I added a few clear drops around the sentiment to accent the florals — like little morning dew drops nestled into the petals. It’s such a simple detail, but it brings everything to life and adds that fresh, dimensional finish I love.
