Hello, crafty friends!

Today, I’m sharing a fun and empowering mixed media card featuring gorgeous floral elements, textured details, and a touch of shimmer. The sentiment, “This Girl Can!”, is a bold reminder that creativity knows no limits! Let’s dive into how I created this dimensional and artistic design.

This card showcases a dreamy blend of pinks, yellows, and earthy tones with layered die-cut flowers in mini pots. The delicate swirls in the background add movement, while the bold black sentiment and tiny splatters create contrast. Yellow butterflies add a whimsical touch, making this card perfect for encouragement or celebration.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Create the Background

Let’s set the stage for our vibrant floral arrangement!

  1. Sprinkle pink and orange pigment powders onto your work surface.

  2. Lightly mist them with water to activate the colors and bring them to life.

  3. Using a fan paintbrush, dip into the pigments and splatter the colors diagonally across a 4.25" x 5.5" piece of watercolor cardstock, moving from the top left to the bottom right. Heat set to lock in the dreamy hues.

  4. Add bold contrast by splattering black ink across the background for a mixed media effect.

  5. For added texture, either die cut or emboss the background with a decorative plate or embossing folder.

  6. Trim the panel down to 4" x 5.25" for a polished fit.

Prepare the Die-Cuts

Now, let’s craft our gorgeous floral elements!

  1. Sprinkle pink and orange pigment powders onto a piece of watercolor cardstock.

  2. Activate the powders by misting with water, then heat set to seal in the color.

  3. Die cut the Love From Lizi flower pot shapes from this colorful cardstock.

  4. To create the bright yellow flower centers, sprinkle yellow pigment powder onto your work surface, spray with water, and heat set.

  5. Cut small squares from the prepared yellow cardstock and adhere them behind the flower die cuts for a pop of color.

  6. Enhance their rims of the flower pot die cuts with black scalloped details for contrast. I used Love From Lizi's Sway Black Peel-off Stickers.

  7. Die cut the small butterfly (Butterfly Duo Die Set) from Love From Lizi's Linen Rainbow Paper Pad (yellow color) to introduce a touch of whimsy.

Assemble the Card

Time to bring everything together!

  1. Arrange the potted flowers in a cascading layout, following the same diagonal flow as the background—from the top left to the bottom right.

  2. Use foam tape to pop up the die cut elements and add depth to the design.

  3. Position the butterflies in the top right corner to create movement and balance the composition.

Add the Sentiment

The finishing touch—an empowering message!

  1. Stamp the sentiment “This Girl Can” in Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink (black) on the bottom left corner of the background and heat set.

  2. For a bold, glossy finish, stamp over the sentiment again with clear embossing ink, sprinkle on clear embossing powder, and heat set to create a sleek shine.

Attach the Card Panel to the Base

Now, let’s give our design a polished finish!

  1. Create a top-folding black card base measuring 4.25" x 5.5".

  2. Adhere the completed card panel to the black base, ensuring even borders for a clean, professional look.

  3. Press firmly to secure the panel in place, or use foam tape for added dimension.

Now you have a stunning, textured card that bursts with color and confidence! 🎨✨

This card was such a joy to make! I love how the mixed media elements bring texture and depth, while the vibrant colors add warmth and positivity.
