So Lucky Card: Celebrating Friendship, Coffee, and Good Vibes | featuring Love From Lizi

Hi crafty friends!

Today, I’m excited to share a card I created for the Love From Lizi Design Team using stamps and ephemera from the February 2025 release. This card celebrates those little moments that make life so special: good coffee, good company, and a sprinkle of luck!

Inspired by the idea of connection, this design reminds us to appreciate the everyday magic of meaningful relationships. Whether it’s catching up with a friend over a latte or simply reflecting on gratitude, there’s always a reason to feel “so lucky.” Let me walk you through how I made this card!

Creating the Card

1. Background Magic

To create the vibrant watercolor-style background, I used Distress Oxide Inks and the ink-smooshing technique. I started by smooshing Fossilized Amber onto my glass board, adding water to create a fluid mixture. Using a sheet of acetate, I picked up the ink and pressed it onto my card panel, building layers of organic texture. I repeated this process with Spiced Marmalade and Pine Needles, allowing the colors to blend beautifully.

To add a touch of shimmer, I splattered Brutus Monroe’s Gilded Aqua Pigment over the background. The golden highlights elevated the design, adding a dreamy, luminous quality to the mottled ink layers.

2. Focal Point: Coffee & Connection

The focal point of this card is the hands holding coffee cups and four-leaf clovers. These images, which symbolize warmth, inclusivity, and luck, are part of the “So Lucky” ephemera pack. You also have the option to stamp and color these images with the coordinating stamp set for a customized look.

I made sure to incorporate varied skin tones to emphasize connection and diversity, which is a central theme of this card.

3. Sentiment & Finishing Touches

The sentiment “So Lucky” and its matching phrase, “that good coffee and you exist,” perfectly tie the theme together. I stamped the sentiments from the "So Lucky" stamp set in dark green ink and die-cut them with my Brother Scan ‘n Cut (since my coordinating dies hadn’t arrived yet).

To finish the card, I added a few Yellow Glitter Drops for dimension and used Clear Wink of Stella to give the card some shimmer and shine.

4. Assembly

I die-cut the ink-smooshed panel using a Wonky Stitched Rectangle die for added interest. To give the card depth, I adhered the ephemera pieces with foam adhesive, allowing the hands and coffee cups to pop against the background. Finally, I framed everything on a Jalapeño card base, which brought the design together with a polished finish.

Step-By-Step Instructions:

1. Trim a piece of 11" x 8.5" Ranger Watercolor Cardstock to 5.5" x 4.25". This will serve as the background for your card.

2. Use the ink smooshing technique to achieve a layered watercolor effect. Press Ranger Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Ink onto a glass board or a slick work surface, then spray it lightly with water. Pick up the ink using a sheet of acetate and press the acetate onto the background panel, creating organic layers. Repeat the process with Ranger Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide Ink, followed by Ranger Pine Needles Distress Oxide Ink. Allow each layer to air dry or use a heat tool to set the ink before adding the next color.

3. Once the background panel is completely dry, use the largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle Die to add a stitched detail and trim the panel to size.

4. Stamp the "So Lucky" sentiment and the "that good coffee and you exist" sentiment onto Neenah 110# Solar White Cardstock using Catherine Pooler's Deck the Halls dye ink. Die cut the "So Lucky" sentiment with its coordinating die. For the "that good coffee and you exist" sentiment, either fussy cut it or use a Brother Scan 'n Cut for a polished look.

5. Use foam adhesive to attach the "So Lucky" sentiment to the top left of the card panel, just outside the stitched border. Place the "that good coffee and you exist" sentiment beneath the "So Lucky" sentiment and adhere it with foam adhesive.

6. From the "So Lucky" ephemera pack, select the two die cuts of hands holding coffee cups. Using foam adhesive, attach one die cut to the left side of the panel and the other to the right so they face each other. Let the die cuts slightly overlap the edges of the panel. Trim any excess from the die cut overlapping the card panel with scissors or a paper trimmer for a clean, flush finish.

7. Trim Taylored Expressions' Jalapeño Cardstock to 5.5" x 8.5". Score at 4.25" along the longer side to create a standard A2 card base. Fold along the score line and use a bone folder to ensure a crisp crease.

8. Center the completed card panel on the Jalapeño card base and adhere it using foam tape for dimension.

9. Apply Clear Wink of Stella to the coffee in the cups for a subtle shimmer. Embellish the card with a few Taylored Expressions' Glitter Drops, securing them with Bearly Art Liquid Glue Adhesive.
