Rainbow Emboss Resist Easter Card | Featuring Taylored Expressions
There are some holidays that I celebrate just for fun. Easter is one of those holidays for me. I wouldn't consider myself a religious person, but I do have my own beliefs. For me, Easter is a time to be thankful for life itself, as well as have fun with the Easter Bunny and Easter Baskets! I do not own many Easter stamps as I don't really send out Easter cards, but I do like to make them when I have the time!
For this Easter card, I first sketched out my design using one of my Card Sketch Templates. If you join my blog as a member now until March 25th, you'll receive a code by email to get these templates for FREE, so be sure to check it out :) I decided I wanted to do a mini-slim card. I love the small feature of mini-slim cards, and when I feel like there may be too much space to fill up for the design I want to do, I opt for mini-slim rather than an A2 sized card.
I began my card with a 4.5" x 5.5" sheet of Neenah Solar White cardstock. I prepped it with some Taylored Expressions Anti-Static Powder, so that I could heat emboss and do an emboss resist technique. I selected a retired stamp from Taylored Expressions called Full Circle - Easter. You can definitely recreate the design using small Easter images from other stamp sets - in my LIVE, I showed a Lawn Fawn set called Hoppy Easter that could be substituted. Also, if you're a fan of Taylored Expressions, they run a TE Buy, Sell, Trade group on Facebook, where you can sell and purchase products from other TE fans - I usually find a lot of TE retired sets on there! I stamped the Easter circle image from the stamp set onto my cardstock with some Wow Clear Ultra Slow Drying embossing ink. I then covered the stamped image with some Wow Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder. You could definitely use white too, but i didn't find it necessary with my cardstock panel being white already. I heat set the powder using a Wagner Heat Tool.
Now that I had my embossed image, I used some Catherine Pooler Mini Inks and blender brushes to blend Cotton Candy (pink), Chiffon (yellow), and Oh Boy! (blue) inks onto my image, giving it a rainbow effect. I really just wanted some soft, pastel colors to give it a spring look. I die cut the finished image with a circle die from my Sizzix Circle Die set, and set this aside.
Next, I cut down some TE Potato Chip Cardstock to 3.5" x 6" to create my background panel. I then used a Woodgrain Stamp from Hero arts to add a tone-on-tone woodgrain look with some Chiffon ink. I used another circle die (one size smaller than the first circle die) to die cut a circle from the top half of the panel. Before adhering this panel to my card, I stamped "Hoppy Easter from the bunny" using the Lawn Fawn Hoppy Easter and Taylored Expressions If Bunnies Could Talk stamp sets. I stamped these with Versafine Clair Nocturne ink to get a crisp, black sentiment. For the "from the bunny" sentiment, I masked off half of the sentiment from the TE stamp set with post-it tape before stamping it onto my panel. Masking is a great way to use and combine stamp sets you already have to get the exact sentiment that you want to use on your card.
Now that I was done with my card panel, I trimmed it down to 3.25" x 5.75", then I adhered the circle image I heat embossed behind the circle window of my panel using some foam tape to give it dimension. I also cut down some Stampin' Up! Wisteria Wonder Cardstock to 3.5" x 6" to get a purple matte for my card. I adhered this to my card using tape runner adhesive, then attached the card panel with the foam adhesive in the center of the matte.
I felt that my card definitely needed a focal image, so I used the bunny from TE If Bunnies Could Talk stamp set. I stamped him with some Lawn Fawn Jet Black Ink onto Neenah cardstock and selected a face stamp to go onto my bunny that I stamped with the same ink. I then colored the bunny image in using Copic Markers (N0, N2, N4 and R30). Lastly, I die cut the stamped bunny, and cut off half of his body so that I could insert him poking out from the circle window on my card.
To finish off my card, I used some Taylored Expressions Yellow Rhinestones from their Rainbow Rhinestones mix to add some bling around my sentiment.
I created this card during a YouTube LIVE, so check out the LIVE REPLAY below to see how I created this card! You can also check it out on Youtube HERE.
