Enchanted Love: A Valentine's Fairy Card with Distress Oxides | featuring Lavinia Stamps from Del Bello's Designs

Love is in the air, and what better way to celebrate than with a magical, fairy-themed Valentine's Day card? This project is packed with dreamy Distress Oxide inks, delicate stamping, and a touch of sparkle—perfect for spreading a little fairy dust to someone special.

Supplies Used:

  • Water-Reactive Inks: light pink, bright pink, red, black

  • Stamps: fairy, tree, script background, fairy dust sentiment

  • Techniques: ink blending, water resist, splattering

  • Additional Elements: black A2 (4.25" x 5.5") card base, wonky stitched rectangle die (largest die), black, white, and red shimmer splatters, glitter, brown watercolor marker, deep red colored pencil

  • Sentiment: "Fairy dust is like love, it creates magic whenever you give it away"

Creating the Mystical Background

The magic begins with an ethereal blend of Distress Oxide Inks. Starting from the bottom center, I applied Spun Sugar, to lay down a soft glow, then deepened it with Picked Raspberry and Candied Apple toward the edges. To create a dramatic contrast, I lightly added Black Soot around the outermost edges, enhancing the dreamy nighttime effect.

To add texture and depth, I used a script background stamp with an ink resist technique. By lighting misting the stamp with water before pressing it onto the inked panel, the lifted ink creates a subtle, aged text effect that peeks through the blended colors.

Stamps & Scene Building

Once the background was dry, I stamped the fairy dust fairy near the bottom center, making her the focal point of this enchanted scene. A tree stamp was added to frame the design, creating a whimsical forest backdrop.

To bring a sense of movement, I flicked black, white, and red shimmer splatter across the panel. These splatters enhance the dreamy, starry effect and add a touch of magic.

Finishing Touches

A Valentine's card wouldn't be complete without a little sparkle. I applied glitter accents around the fairy to give the illusion of floating fairy dust. The sentiment, "Fairy dust is like love, it creates magic whenever you give it away," was stamped, complementing the overall theme.

To tie everything together, I die-cut the panel with a wonky stitched rectangle die for a whimsical touch, then mounted it onto a black card base to frame the vibrant background and enhance the contrast.
