A Moonlit Dream: Stamp Layering on a Family of Birds Card with Lavinia Stamps

There’s something truly enchanting about a starry sky, especially when it tells a story close to your heart. Today’s card is one of my most meaningful makes—it represents my little family of three, captured in a dreamy night scene filled with love, hope, and a touch of sparkle.

I pulled out my favorite Lavinia Stamps and dove into ink blending, water-resist techniques, layered stamping, and heat embossing to create a serene, magical background. The real stars of the show? The sweet family of birds, brought to life with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers, a little fussy cutting, and a whole lot of heart.

Every detail—every brushstroke and shimmer—tells our story. 💜

Step-by-Step Instructions:

🌕 Create the Moon:

Begin with a soft glow by blending Antique Linen Distress Oxide in the center towards the right side of your card panel. Then place a circle mask over it—this will be your moon. Protect it while you build your dreamy sky around it.

🌌 Blend the Background:

Surround the moon with Victorian Velvet and Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Inks, letting the colors softly blend outward. Deepen the outer edges with Black Soot for a striking nightfall effect. Spritz lightly with water to lift the ink and create that magical, water-resist texture.

✨ Add Splatter:

Using a fan paintbrush, flick Dr. Ph Martin’s Bleed Proof White Paint across your background. These delicate white splatters become your starry sky.

🌙 Stamp the Background & Scene:

In a soft grey ink, stamp a layer of Lavinia Stamps' Psychic Signs text in the background for added depth. Then bring in the tree branches and perched birds using Versafine Clair Nocturne—the bold black ink makes the silhouette pop against your inky sky.

💬 Add the Sentiment:

Stamp “Every dream begins with a wish” using clear embossing ink, then heat emboss with white embossing powder. The result? A crisp, glowing sentiment that anchors the whole design.

🎨 Color & Add the Birds:

Stamp the birds again on a separate piece of paper, color them using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers, and fussy cut them out. Adhere them on top of your previously stamped birds for that layered, dimensional look.

✨ Finishing Touches:

Use a white Posca pen to highlight key details on the birds, then add a soft sparkle with Lavinia Stamps' Iridescent Glitter—because even a quiet night needs a little magic.
